Frankincense – Ancient Herb with Many Curative Properties

Although an ancient herb, frankincense has been used for centuries up until today in the form of essential oil for the respiratory system, immune system, nervous system and in skin care products.

This powerful antiseptic grows wild throughout north-east Africa and is shipped all over the world.  Herbalists and doctors in the East and West have used its curative properties for digestive issues, cancer, urinary tract infections, rheumatism, respiratory infections and many other ailments.

At home every year around this time I make an Immunity oil to carry us through the flu and cold season.  We rub the oil on our chest, feet, back, neck, along our spine and under our nose.  My Immunity oil is made up of various organic essential oils, one of them being my treasured Frankincense.

You can find organic Essential Oil of Frankincense in any local herb shop.  Herbalists will be able to blend it for you with the right amount of carrier oils and other essential oils that compliment it.  Based on your needs you can have an oil made specifically for you.
If you don’t have a local herbalist around you here is an easy recipe you can try at home for making a rubbing oil.

You will need:
1 glass dropper bottle (1 ounce size)
1 ounce of organic almond or olive oil
10 drops of essential oil of Frankincense
5 drops of essential oil of Myrrh
5 drops of essential oil of Lavender
5 drops of essential oil of Rosemary

Add in each of your essential oils and let them sit for a minute so they can mix, then place most your carrier oil inside the dropper bottle leaving about 1 centimeter of space at the top.
Shake gently, place cover and store in a cool, dark place and away from heat.

I must note that each person reacts differently to essential oils, so always do your research before using any essential oil.

Just for Fun!
Did you know?  Frankincense is mentioned in the Bible. In the new testament it is one of the gifts given to Jesus by the wise men.  In Exodus 30:34-36 it is listed in the recipe for the Holy incense.

Frankincense is also mentioned in Numbers 16:46-50. In this passage, Aaron is told to use frankincense to stop a plague. We aren’t told what the plague was. It could have been a virus, bacteria, or fungal plague. We just don’t know. But whatever caused it, the frankincense stopped it. Remember that frankincense has anti-infectious properties. So, whatever infectious thing was spreading like a plague was eliminated.

“The Greek historian Herodotus was familiar with Frankincense and knew it was harvested from trees in southern Arabia. He reported that the gum was dangerous to harvest because of venomous snakes that lived in the trees. He goes on to describe the method used by the Arabs to get around this problem, that being the burning of the gum of the styrax tree whose smoke would drive the snakes away. The resin is also mentioned by Theophrastus and by Pliny the Elder in his Naturalis Historia“.
