At home we enjoy baking cakes, breads, cookies, brownies, cornbread and many other treats in the oven using a healthy snack often available in our food closets. I substitute with organic applesauce and it makes for a virtually fat free alternative.
Whether you’re working on raw or cooked recipes applesauce is a healthy alternative if you want to avoid the high processed fat content in commercial oils and butters. However if you want to use an oil you can use Organic Unrefined Coconut Oil, it is a fantastic alternative. Another great alternative for a healthy fat is pastured raw butter.
We also use applesauce when making raw and cooked pancakes to avoid overly fatty pancakes. Our pancakes usually have nuts and grains that are full of good fats so we can skip any additional oil and butter in the recipes. To view how I make my pancakes, look at my article entitled: What is the Best Diet?
To use applesauce you just add 2 parts for 1 part of required oil or butter. So if your recipe calls for 2 tablespoons of oil you would use 4 tablespoons of applesauce, however you can add as much as you like to attain the consistency you need.
