Latin Food Seasonings – Loaded with MSG

Someone I know earlier this week texted me in utter dismay because she had looked at some of the labels in her kitchen.  What she found shocked and disappointed her.  Here she was thinking that she was doing a good thing using culturally correct Latin seasonings advertised as healthy and good for the family.

So what’s the problem?  Well for starters most of the staples traditionally advertised as good are absolute junk in box.

Goya one of the makers of Adobo, Sazon and Sofrito is one of the biggest manufacturers of processed foods  in Latin America.  You can see thousands of commercials each year picturing wonderful family gatherings, daughters cooking with mothers and children sneaking a taste of deliciously tenting food from the table.

But what many people don’t know is that they are consuming high levels or toxic food additives and artificial coloring when they use these products.

So next time your shopping make it a point to stop and read the labels.  If you’re eating at a Latin Restaurant ask them if they use MSG, you might just be surprised to hear a “yes”.
