Is the Chicken Place really better?

I can’t say I have eaten everything the famous fast food chicken restaurant has to offer but in previous years I have tasted their sweet tea, salads and grilled chicken sandwich.  Lets face it, out of all the fast food restaurants they seem to be the healthiest fast food place based on their focus on health conscious ads.  They are also very open about their ingredients.  But are they really a healthier fast food joint or are they just the same as the other death traps?

I started looking up their ingredients and stopped just after reading the first few words in what seemed like a never ending list of unpronounceable words.  The ingredient I kept finding the most of in their sandwiches and nuggets – take a guess – it’s a flavor enhancer that causes more health issues than any other flavor enhancer I know.

And the winner is……………..MSG.  So why should you not consume products with MSG?  Well mainly because it is an excitotoxin, which is a substance that overexcites your neurons to the point of cell damage and, eventually, cell death.  It has been known to cause serious asthma attacks in children, severe migraines, heart palpitations, obesity, hyperactivity in children and the list goes on and on.

So if your really into the crunchy chicken you might want to consider a somewhat healthier version.  You can probably find Applegate Farms Natural Chicken Patties at your local Wholefoods store.  It beats eating MSG loaded chicken patties – no matter how good they taste.

Another option is to make your own Organic ground chicken and make your own patties.  You can use quinoa flakes instead of the traditional breadcrumbs for a super nutritious twist.  Season your ground chicken with sea salt, pepper, freshly chopped garlic, onions, cilantro and anything else you love.  Toss it all in a bowl, add and egg or egg substitute, some balsamic vinegar and mix away.  Form your patties then dip in egg whites and bread them.  Put them in the oven at 425 for 30 minutes on each side and wha lah – you’ll have a fantabulastic chicken patty.  Or if you want the crunch factor you can cook on low in a tablespoon of Organic Virgin Coconut Oil
