Use this Herb Effectively for Dermatitis, Asthma, Colic, Nausea, Vertigo and Much More

I love herbs so much.  It’s amazing how the earth was created with everything we needed to live a good, long and healthy life.

One of the things God blessed the earth with is my favored Peppermint.

Did you know that a type of peppermint has been found in Egyptian tombs dating from 1000 BC.  It has been used for centuries for indigestion, colic, nausea, diarrhea, sore throat, toothaches, cramps, flatulence, acne, scabies, halitosis, neuralgia, fevers and ringworm; both as a tea and in aromatherapy treatments.

Peppermint’s medicinal properties include: analgesic, anti-inflamatory, antiseptic, antimicrobial, febrifuge, antiviral, antispasmodic.

We have used peppermint essential oil in our shampoo for many years to help with dry scalp and flakes.  The essential oil makes a lovely addition to an essential oil diffuser and mixes well with lavender, rosemary, lemon, eucalyptus and spearmint.  The tea settles the most upset of tummies and can effectively reduce fever along with other fever reducing herbs.

Do you need to make an herbal tea with peppermint?  Find out how by clicking here.

As with all things I recommend you use organic peppermint in all its forms.  You can buy quality organic essential oil at your local health food store in addition to the fresh or dried herb for use in teas and herbal baths.

If you need a pure and aromatic organic dried peppermint in loose tea form please contact me for pricing.  I have shipped several teas and my signature tea blends and herbal baths all over the world.

Blessings!

Mama’s Back to School Health Kit – Be Prepared before School Starts

I wish we still had 3 more months of summer break. Just the thought of early morning traffic, coughing children and flu season really don’t encourage me to want to have the kids start school again.

Let’s face it no matter how clean you are or how well you raise your kids they are likely to get sick from one of their buddies at school.  They are also bound to slip and fall and have a bu-bu you’ll need to kiss and make better or have a midnight tummy ache.

But what troubles me more about starting school is that I saw how germs traveled when I was volunteering as a lunch room mom in my children’s school.

Children from kindergarten all the way up through elementary would cough, sneeze and then touch their friends, their food and the food around them.  They would rub stuffy noses then scratch their eyes and keep eating.

Hand washing was allowed after lunch but by then the germs had traveled into little ears, eyes and noses where they would eventually cause havoc.

So how can a mom be prepared this upcoming school year for the bumps, bruises, lice, colds, coughs, tummy aches and everything in between?

Make yourself a little Health Kit with things purchased at your local health food store.  You can also pre-order a custom-made kit from La Chica Organica by emailing me at LaChicaOrganica@gmail.com for details. Help – I’m sick and I’m Miserable! Part 2

I have received numerous emails at LaChicaOrganica@gmail.com asking me when I was going to finish this 3 part series.  Thank you very much for your response.  Here goes part 2.

I wasn’t planning on writing about this but given the recent occurrences at my home its warranted.  My sister called me freaking out because my niece got lice from a little girl at school.  Now my niece and sister both have it.  So whose house do you think they came over for a cure?? Yup, La Chica Organica’s house.

After hearing the knock on my door I knew I had to break out some herbs to prevent infesting our family of 5 with lice.  My sister knowing about our herbal madness went to Wholefoods and bought some Rosemary, brewed it and put it in a squirt bottle.  She walked in spraying me, the baby and my floor.  Seems comical but lice don’t like Rosemary and several other things.

Here are a few well-known natural remedies for lice we have used and are now sharing with my niece and sister.

To treat and remove lice yourself try the following overnight remedy with essential oils:

- 1/4 tsp of cinnamon, 1 tsp of lavender , 1 tsp of rosemary, 2 tsp of eucalyptus, 2 tsp of tea tree.  Mix all the oils in with about 1/2 cup of olive oil.  Distribute the mix all over your hair and scalp.  Wrap your head in saran wrap and cover with a shower cap.  Leave it on over night.  When you wake up comb through very well and wash hair.  Re-apply mixture 3 more nights or until lice and eggs are gone.

- 1 tablespoon of anise oil and 2 table spoons of oil oil.  Mix and rub into scalp and hair.  Leave on for a few hrs.  Come through with fine metal comb and revome lice and eggs.  Repeat twice a day for 3 days or until lice is removed.

- plain cheap old mayonnaise can help kill these critters too.  Saturate hair with mayo, wrap in seran wrap and cover with cap.  leave on for 2 to 3 hrs.  Comb through and wash out.  Repeat nightly for 5 nights or until lice is removed.

To prevent re-infestation apply rosemary tea via a spray bottle after washing hair every time.

If you’re not up to the laboratory herbal concoctions you can purchase a great natural based product called Zero Lice – Lice and Egg Removal Kit by Thursday Plantation.

Alright enough with the lice,I’m itching just thinking about it.

So what do you do when you have a sty in your eye?  Dont sty’s stink.  I had one not to long ago and it was not a pleasant thing to have.  To ensure I did not have some rare eye eating disease I made an appt to see what the eye doc was going to say.  He confirmed my suspicions and said I had a sty.  He recommended i use some Boric Acid drops and assured me it was OK to take while nursing, he handed me some samples.  He said it would take about 6 weeks to clear up since I had it pretty bad and most of my face under my eye was swollen and hurting.

Being the chic that I am  went home, ditched the Boric Acid and pulled out my stainless steel tea-pot and some Thyme.  I brewed about 1 tsp of Thyme in 8 oz of water on low for 15 minutes.  Once slightly cooled I applied hot compresses with it and repeated 3 to 5 times a day for about 2 weeks.  To ease the itching and burning I brewed some chamomile tea, strained off herbs and placed in a glass bottle with a dropper.  I dropped 2 to 3 drops in each eye twice a day.  My sty cleared up in less than 3 weeks and the doc was amazed.

Have congestion?  Aside from drinking herbal teas with garlic, oregano oil and honey try making your own vapor rub.  The beauty of making your own is that its fresh and you can make as much or as little as you want.  Oils for congestion are extremely effective because they stimulate blood flow to your lungs and open up the air passages while penetrating your skin and tissues to further provide their anti-microbial and anti-inflammatory properties.

You can mix the following essential oils, the ones you don’t want to skip are in bold while the others not in bold are optional:  thyme, eucalyptus, peppermint, hyssop, frankincense, myrrh, geranium, vitamin e, cinnamon and anise.  For my children under 10 yrs I use one to two drops of each oil, then I  mix.  Onced mixed I take about 6 drops of combined oil and add it to 1 tsp of almond oil.  The almond oil acts as a carrier oil.  We rub this oil on feet, neck, chest back area especially down the spinal cord and lightly over the nose.  Children and adults over 10 can use up to 10 drops of the combined oil above with 1 tsp of almond oil.

Check  back for part 3 soon.
