Amazing Juice for Skin Problems

You may want to take note of this yummy and healthy recipe that is a great cleanser for your skin.

Our main ingredient is the avocado since avocados are known for their high vitamin E content and act as a natural moisturizer.  Once you have your avocado ready you will need 2 or 3 large oranges, one large apple, about 3 ounces of tender asparagus spears, the juice of a small lemon, a small handful of parsley, mineral water and some ice cubes.

May I add that la Chica Organica ONLY uses Organic produce especially when preparing juices.

First juice your oranges and lemon.  Then add all the other ingredients in your blender with the juice from the oranges and lemon and blend until smooth.  You may have to stop a few times and scrape down the sides to ensure all is blended evenly. *Note* You may want to peel your apple depending on your blender efficiency , but I keep the skin on to get all the vitamins and nutrients that the apple has to offer.

I like to use large water goblets but you can use a plain glass or cup, it’s just that the goblets (mine are cobalt blue) give it a nice sophisticated look especially if you’re serving this up to your kids, friends or spouse.  So add some ice to your glass and then pour in the juice until it’s almost full, then top off with some mineral water and give it a stir.

I have noticed that most skin problems do disappear with frequent drinking of this juice (about 3 times a week or more).

Give it a try – you have nothing to lose.  It’s a win, win situation.  You will get clearer more radiant skin and your providing your body with necessary nutrients and vitamins from food that is alive and beneficial to your health.

Enjoy!

Do You Have to Buy Every Fruit & Veggie Organic?

Official seal of the National Organic Program

The answer to the above question is no.  This is something I have been writing about on and off for a long time.  I have shared this in the talks I give and have explained the differences to many people these past 9 years.

Lately I have received more and more questions on what fruits and veggies must be organic so I am going to share this helpful guide again with you.  Print it out if you like and take it with you when you go shopping so that you don’t forget.

As mentioned by the Environmental Working Group, The Shopper’s Guide to Pesticides is a key resource for consumers aiming for healthier diets. Since many shoppers can’t find or afford organic produce, they can use the Shopper’s Guide to avoid those conventional fruits and vegetables found to be highest in pesticides.

If you want to read a great article on why you should choose Organic then click here.

If you want to know what the number on your fruit and veggies mean then click here. These are the numbers that are on every single produce item and they can help you stay informed about what produce is Organic, genetically modified and so on.  Click here to review this insightful resource.

This food additive causes severe migraines, heart palpitations, obesity, hyperactivity and serious asthma attacks in children

MSG crystals

Its so important to protect your family from Toxic Food Additives.

Hopefully you’re aware of the perils that are hiding on the shelves of our grocery stores.  If you are like me you make a point to not allow junky food items into your home.  Or maybe you do because you don’t know any better.  That’s OK though; living healthy  is a learning experience and if you’re dedicated and care about your health and your family’s health you can and will overcome the junk!  So don’t start saying I can’t or its too overwhelming, just take little baby steps and everyday try to eliminate one bad thing from your diet and before you know it you will be on the road to a healthier more vibrant you!

There are so many ingredients that are absolutely toxic for us and cause all sorts of health issues but for the sake of this article and the next one that will follow, I will stick to just 2 of these evil offenders.

As a side note.  For those of you interested in the full list I will soon make available a La Chica Organica exclusive eBook entitled “Food The New Poison – What on Earth am I Eating”. So stay tuned.

I so dislike being the whistle blower but someone’s got to say something.

Drum roll please……

Let’s start with MSG (Monosodium Glutamate) a widely used flavor enhancer.  Used in everything from so called healthy chips to jello to that cheap noodle soup in a cup I used to eat over 11 yrs ago because I was in the dark.  It can also be found in infant formulas and things that are labeled as Organic.

So what’s the big deal anyway?  You see, MSG is an excitotoxin, which is a substance that overexcites your neurons to the point of cell damage and, eventually, cell death.  It has been known to cause serious asthma attacks in children, severe migraines, heart palpitations, obesity, hyperactivity in children and the list goes on and on.  Meanwhile we are drugging our kids for ADD and ADHD without even thinking that MSG removal from their diet can possibly eliminate the problem.

Now that you know enough, take a break from reading this article and watch this excellent report done by 60 Minutes, then when you’re done come back.

Did it surprise you that the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) classified MSG as a food ingredient and has deemed it “generally recognized as safe.” Now why on earth would they say that?  Here is why.  By FDA definition, all MSG is “naturally occurring.” “Natural” doesn’t mean “safe.”  “Natural” only means that the ingredient started out in nature.

Aha, now that’s comforting.  So because petroleum is naturally occurring I can make a food product laced with petroleum and call it food because after all it’s naturally occurring.  I don’t know about you but that just scares me.

So what’s a person to do?

Be a mafia super spy, that’s what.  OK I am obviously over-exaggerating but you get the point.  You almost have to take on a mafia mentality to protect yourself these days.  My best advice to you is to read EVERYTHING.  And if you come across some ingredients in the labels you don’t understand then pick up a copy of this book entitled A Consumer’s Dictionary of Food Additives

It will help you understand every ingredient in food today, where it came from what it does etc..  This book is truly amazing.  We often take it with us to the store believe it or not.

But since you don’t have this handy book with you let’s just cover some of the food additives that ALWAYS contain MSG:
