I love Red Rose Petals. At home we use them in everything from our crafts to our teas and herbal baths. We have on more than one occasion also used them to make a delicious rose petal jam. Once a friend of mine had really bad mouth sores and I quickly made her a strong Red Rose Petal tea for her to swoosh around in her mouth. After a few days of using this fragrant remedy, all her sores that normally lasted several weeks were gone. Simply Amazing.
Red Rose Petals are one of Gods Green herbs that we use often and enjoy adding to our recipes. But you probably did not know that Red Rose Petals have many medicinal properties. Here are just a few:
- Rose petals are rejuvenating and prove to be a tonic.
- They are used to treat internal asthma, high blood pressure, bronchitis, slow circulation, diarrhea, dysmenorrhea (painful menstruation), cough, fever and fluid retention, indigestion, insomnia, palpitation, stress and urinary tract infections.
- Due to their strong and pleasant fragrance, rose petals are used for making essential oils and perfumes.
- They are ingested as a tea to provide a comforting effect and diminish body temperatures during high fevers.
- The tea also effectively cleanses toxins and heat from the body.
- The infusion prepared from the rose petals is used to alleviate cold and flu symptoms.
- The infusion is also effective in treating sore throats, runny nose and congested bronchial tracts.
- The petals effectively combat infections in the digestive system and restore the normal and essential bacteria in the intestines.
- They have a diuretic effect and hence, are beneficial in relieving excessive fluids from the urinary bladder.
- Rose petals help to get rid of the waste and toxic substances in the body, through the kidneys.
- They alleviate problems of insomnia, depression and fatigue.
To make a strong herbal tea simply boil a cup of water and pour over 2 tablepoons of red rose petals. Cover and steep for 5 minutes then strain and enjoy. At home we NEVER toss the strained herbs. Why? Oh, I’ll spill the beans and give you one of my oldest beauty tips.
Ready for this? It’s quite simple. Use the strained petals to gently rub on your clean product free face. If you can, lay down and place the petals over you face for 5 to 10 minutes then gently exfoliate with them and do Not wash your face afterwards. I have been doing this for years and it’s a fantastic inexpensive way to keep your skin radiant and soft.
I also use red rose petals in one of our customer favorites called I’m an Organic Baby Bath™ (blend of organic loose herbs).
This bath came about because I wanted to treat my children to a non chemical bath that would sooth and cleanse their skin. We enjoy these baths weekly especially our latest baby, he loves taking herbal baths with mommy. You don’t have to be a baby to enjoy its healing properties; it’s a great herbal bath for everyone! I often get asked this question when I am speaking or when I am around friends with little ones.
So I am going to give you a quick example of what a sick day in our home looks like, using my self as the victim and a few of the many treatments and approaches I use when sickness comes knocking.
It’s very important to note that if you have overly rambunctious kids and all of a sudden they are clingy, whining and sleepy with dark circles or red glossy eyes, this is a straight giveaway that sickness might be lurking around the corner.
When I see these symptoms in a member of our household it always turns out to mean a flu, cold or virus has already begun to pester the delicate balance of their internal health.
So I will usually whip out my greens (Chlorella, spirulina, wheatgrass, dandelion), colostrum capsules, olive leaf extract, raw honey and some frozen mangos or berries. I add in some water or almond milk and blend my self a huge 32 ounce smoothie. I will drink 3 of these shakes the entire day in addition to 3 cups of my Immunity Rescue Tea
If I am very ill I will juice greens, veggies and fruits instead of smoothies and also do the Immunity tea mentioned above 3 to 5 times per day.
In addition to smoothies and tea I do not eat anything other than a meat and dairy free soup or cream of sweet potatoes and carrots which is easily done by boiling carrots and sweet potatoes with a pinch of sea salt and then blending cooked potatoes and carrots with the same liquid it boiled in.
If it’s a cold I feel coming on I make a bath using Moms Herbal Salts and add in lots of eucalyptus and thyme. I soak in it for about 30 minutes and come out of the bath and rub frankincense and myrrh oil on my feet and neck.
About every 3 hours I will do 3 dropper-fulls of my Immunity Rescue Glycerite or tincture, which is a great organic herbal medicine that can be made by everyone in their home and save lots of time and $. If I am out of my own homemade immunity glycerites and tinctures I will use a great substitute in capsule form called Wellness by Source Naturals.
If my throat is itchy and scratchy I’ll add 2 cloves of garlic to my tea each time I brew a cup as garlic acts as a natural antibiotic and also boasts anti-viral properties. If my ears are itching I’ll put a few drops of peroxide in both ears and drain it out, then add 3 drops of garlic and mullein oil in each ear and cover with cotton repeating 3 times a day for 2 days.
During this time I try to rest as much as possible although for me that means maybe a 6 hour sleep night with two nursing interruptions. When at all possible aim for 8 to 10 hours of sleep so that your body can regain strength and you will recuperate much faster.
It seems like a lot of stuff but I would rather sacrifice two days of intense treatment then be sick for two weeks like most people. My children also get the same treatment in addition to me listening to their lungs with my stethoscope and also look in their ears as an added measure. Because my oldest has a history of asthma that is under control now, I always keep an emergency bottle of Clear Lungs at home which is the best herbal supplement for asthma I have found so far, and it comes in handy when traveling and an asthma flare up occurs.

Herbs for Cough and Lung Problems

My sister just stopped by in a panic because my 5-year-old niece was coughing non stop all day and she suffers from asthma. She has been working on changing their diet and determining her triggers but for today she wanted me to mix up something quick and effective to help my niece stop coughing.
My sister told me that my niece was doing breathing treatments with Albuterol and Pulmicort and her asthmatic coughing was as persistent as ever. Now, these meds have a place in our world when absolutely necessary and in an emergency but they are not a cure-all. The Albuterol is a bronchodilator while the Pulmicort is an inhaled steroid. Both Albuterol and Pulmicort are medications used to treat asthma, however Albuterol is short acting and reserved for acute symptoms management. Pulmicort is a medication taken daily in an attempt to suppress the symptoms of asthma and therefore reduce the need to use Albuterol. Both have serious side effects worth reading about, so research them if you use this medication.
When my first son was smaller he took many doses of both of these meds to no avail in addition to several other prescriptions. He got worse and ended up in the hospital or doctor’s office weekly. It was not until I started studying everything in detail and determining his triggers and also treating his stomach and food allergies that his condition started to get better.
But in my sister’s case she had done everything her pediatrician advised and my little niece was still coughing away.
So I whipped up a quick herbal goodie bag of La Chica Organica”s Cough Control Tea which has fennel. ginger, fenugreek and mullein. I also gave her 30 drops of organic cayenne extract, 15 drops of my lemon balm extract and 3 drops of super strong oil of oregano. The trick was getting this screaming coughing child to down less than an ounce of this spicy stuff that I mixed with juice. She kicked and screamed, we bribed her with candy and she gave in. The funny thing is that in our home everyone including out 17 month old has done some form of Cayenne shots and there is rarely a scream or kick from them although we sometimes jump up and down and make faces. But we have gotten use to it and I started them early so now its as common as drinking a glass of water, although my oldest son sometimes freaks out, we usually handle the heat quite well.
The cool thing is that my niece’s cough stopped immediately and I sent my sister home with enough herbs to make a few cups of tea and some herbal cough drops. I also advised her to add some raw crushed garlic to her tea.
But I must say that not all coughs are the same so its important that you pay attention and seek medical advise to determine the cause of the cough as a serious cough can be a sign of bronchitis, asthma, emphysema, lung cancer, Gastroesophageal reflux disease, post nasal drainage, allergies and more.
If you are wondering why I chose some of the herbs mentioned for my nieces cough; here is some helpful information about their medicinal properties:
Fenugreek – The seed part of fenugreek is a mucilaginous herb with affinity for the lymphatic and respiratory systems. It is an excellent herb to use for conditions involving excess mucus or phlegm such as asthma. It has bitter principles, saponins, which have a dissolving and loosening properties, which may explain why it has been used to dissolve thick or hardened mucus and aid in its expulsion from the body. It may help expel toxic waste from the lymphatic system as mucus secretions come from the lymphatic system. Mucilage is also helpful in the digestive process.
Garlic has been used for centuries for its antibiotic and its ability to help with dry coughs. One significant advantage of garlic is that the bacteria do not seem to build up a resistance to it as they do to many modern antibiotics; “garlic does not seem to produce such resistant strains”. This also makes it potentially effective against hospital superbugs. To make an effective garlic syrup just mince a clove of garlic and place in a small bowl; cover with honey and cover the bowl with plastic wrap; marinate overnight then strain off the garlic and place honey in a jar. Take one tablespoonful upon awakening, then throughout the day, as needed. This can also be done by using red onion and garlic for colds, flu and coughs.
Fennel is an aromatic herb, especially useful for stimulating the digestive process. It has a long history of use in helping to overcome colic, gas and other digestive disturbances. These oils appear to stimulate the lungs to eliminate phlegm. This is known as an expectorant action. Fennel also has diuretic properties. Historically, it has been used in cases of persistent coughs and bronchitis. It is also reported to have anti-convulsive properties.
Mullein is one of the major herbs used for lung problems. It appears to have the ability to loosen mucus and move it out of the body. It also appears to nourish and strengthen the lung tissue making it useful for all respiratory problems and pulmonary diseases. Mullein has been used to help reduce swelling in the lymph nodes as well.

Vitamin D your Superhero – No Flu Vaccines Needed
16 Sep 2010 4 Comments

If scientists discovered something that worked better than vaccines at preventing influenza, you’d think they would jump all over it, right? After all, isn’t the point to protect children and adults from influenza?
A clinical trial led by Mitsuyoshi Urashima and conducted by the Division of Molecular Epidemiology in the the Department of Pediatrics at the Jikei University School of Medicine Minato-ku in Tokyo found that vitamin D was extremely effective at halting influenza infections in children. The trial appears in the March, 2010 issue of the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition (Am J Clin Nutr (March 10, 2010). doi:10.3945/ajcn.2009.29094)
The results are from a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study involving 334 children, half of which were given 1200 IUs per day of vitamin D3. In other words, this was a “rigorous” scientific study meeting the gold standard of scientific evidence.
In the study, while 31 of 167 children in the placebo group contracted influenza over the four month duration of the study, only 18 of 168 children in the vitamin D group did. This means vitamin D was responsible for an absolute reduction of nearly 8 percent.
Flu vaccines, according to the latest scientific evidence, achieve a 1 percent reduction in influenza symptoms (http://www.naturalnews.com/029641_v…).
This means vitamin D appears to be 800% more effective than vaccines at preventing influenza infections in children.
To further support this, what really needs to be done is a clinical trial directly comparing vitamin D supplements to influenza vaccines with four total groups:
Group #1 receives a vitamin D placebo
Group #2 receives real vitamin D (2,000 IUs per day)
Group #3 receives an influenza vaccine injection
Group #4 receives an inert injection
Groups 1 and 2 should be randomized and double blind while groups 3 and 4 should also be randomized and double blind. The results would reveal the comparative effectiveness of vitamin D versus influenza vaccines.
Unfortunately, such a trial will never be conducted because vaccine pushers already know this trial would show their vaccines to be all but useless. So they won’t subject vaccines to any real science that compares it to vitamin D.
Vitamin D also significantly reduced asthma in children
Getting back to the study, another fascinating result from the trial is that if you remove those children from the study who were already being given vitamin D by their parents, so that you are only looking at children who started out with no vitamin D supplementation before the trial began, the results look even better as vitamin D reduced relative infection risk by nearly two-thirds.
More than six out of ten children who would have normally been infected with influenza, in other words, were protected by vitamin D supplementation.
Also revealed in the study: vitamin D strongly suppressed symptoms of asthma. In children with a previous asthma diagnosis, 12 of those receiving no vitamin D experienced asthma attacks. But in the vitamin D group, only 2 children did.
While this subset sample size is small, it does offer yet more evidence that vitamin D prevents asthma attacks in children, and this entirely consistent with the previous evidence on vitamin D which shows it to be a powerful nutrient for preventing asthma.
Vaccine pushers aren’t followers of real science
Now, given that vitamin D3 shows such a powerful effect in preventing influenza — with 800% increased efficacy over vaccines — shouldn’t CDC officials, doctors and health authorities be rushing to recommend vitamin D before flu season arrives?
Of course they should. But they won’t. Because for them, it’s not about actually preventing influenza and it never has been. The vaccine pushing camp is primarily interested in using influenza as an excuse to vaccinate more people regardless of whether such vaccines are useful (or safe).
Even if vitamin D offered 100% protection against all influenza infections, they still wouldn’t recommend it.
Why? Because they flatly don’t believe in nutrition! It runs counter to their med school programming which says that nutrients are useless and only drugs, vaccines and surgery count as real medicine.
The vaccine pushers, you see, aren’t followers of real science. You could publish a hundred studies proving how vitamin D is many times more effective than vaccines and they still would never recommend it.
They are promoters of medical dogma rather than real solutions for patients. They promote vaccines because… well… that’s what they’ve always promoted, and that’s what their colleagues promote. And how could so many smart people be wrong, anyway?
But that’s the history of science: A whole bunch of really smart people turn out to be wrong on a regular basis. That’s usually how science advances, by the way: A new idea challenges an old assumption, and after all the defenders of the old (wrong) idea die off, science manages to inch its way forward against the hoots and heckles of a determined dogmatic resistance.
This attitude is blatantly reflected in a quote from Dr John Oxford, a professor of virology at Queen Mary School of Medicine in London, whose reaction to this study was: “This is a timely study. It will be noticed by scientists. It fits in with the seasonal pattern of flu. There is an increasing background of solid science that makes the vitamin D story credible. But this study needs to be replicated. If it is confirmed we might think of giving vitamin D at the same time as we vaccinate.” (http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/ne…)
Did you notice his concluding remark? He wasn’t even considering the idea that vitamin D might replace vaccines. Rather, he’s assuming vitamin D only has value if given together with vaccines!
You see this in the cancer industry, too, with anti-cancer herbs and nutrients. Any time an anti-cancer nutrient gains some press (which isn’t very often), the cancer doctor will say things like, “Well, this might be useful to give to a patient after chemotherapy…” but never as a replacement for chemo, you see.
Many mainstream doctors and medical scientists are simply incapable of thinking outside the very limiting boxes into which their brains have been shoved through years of de-education in medical schools. When they see evidence contrary to what they’ve been taught, they foolishly dismiss it.
“The fact that an opinion has been widely held is no evidence whatever that it is not utterly absurd; indeed in view of the silliness of the majority of mankind, a widespread belief is more likely to be foolish than sensible.” – Bertrand Russell
Medical journals as guardians of ignorance
Medical journals largely function not as beacons of scientific truth but as defenders of pseudoscientific dogma. To have your paper published in most journals, your paper must meet the expectations and beliefs of that journal’s editor. Thus, the advancement of scientific knowledge reflected in each journal is limited to the current beliefs of just one person — the editor of that journal.
Truly pioneering research that challenges the status quo is almost always rejected. Only papers that confirm the presently-held beliefs of the journal’s editorial staff are accepted for publication. This is one reason why medical science, in particular, advances so slowly.
Studies that show vitamin D to be more effective than vaccines will rarely see the light of day in the scientific community. It is to the great credit of the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, in fact, that it accepted the publication of this paper by Mitsuyoshi Urashima. Most medical journals wouldn’t dare touch it because it questions status quo beliefs about vaccines and influenza.
Medical journals, you see, are largely funded by the pharmaceutical industry. And Big Pharma doesn’t want to see any studies lending credibility to vitamins, regardless of their scientific merit. Even if vitamin D could save America billions of dollars in reduced health care costs (which it can, actually), they don’t want vitamin D to receive any scientific backing whatsoever because drug companies can’t patent vitamin D. It’s readily available to everyone for mere pennies a day.
In time, it will be recognized as superior to vaccines for seasonal flu, but for now, we must all suffer under the foolish propaganda of an industry that has abandoned science and now worships a needle.
