I am sure by now you have caught some of the news on vitamin D deficiency and how this can seriously affect your health. Through the media and hopefully through your own research you may have learned that vitamin D is responsible for:

But no one is giving any options on which type of vitamin D to buy. Most people opt to have their doctors write them a prescription for vitamin D which is OK but should not be not your optimal choice. Why?
Well because most vitamin D prescribed by doctors is in the form of vitamin D2 also called Ergocalciferol. However the over the counter vitamin D in the form of Vitamin D3, also called Cholecalciferol, is a much better choice. Studies have shown that prescription vitamin D2 is about 1/10 as effective as vitamin D3. Research has also shown that vitamin D2 also has a higher potential for toxicity when compared to vitamin D3.
In addition to the above issues with vitamin D2 it also has been found to have a much shorter half-life, which means that you not only need more of the vitamin to prevent or treat deficiency, but you also need to take a higher dose more frequently. Vitamin D3 however stays in your blood at a rate of 50% for up to 3 weeks after you take a dose. So it’s a much better option than D2.
