Black Mold – It Can be Deadly for Your Family

We had a terrible black mold problem in our home a few yrs ago. Everyone in our home suffered from severe health issues that lead to many hospital visits and almost caused me to pre-maturely deliver our son. Our constant exposure to black mold caused my husband to suffer from debilitating migraines, nerve inflammation and pain. The children and I also suffered from constant nose bleeds, ear infections, wheezing, congestion, sinusitis, eczema, psoriasis and many other issues. Not to mention my daily nose bleeds, my heart complications and the onset of asthma for the 1st time in my life, all related to my exposure to this evil mold.
It was a rough time, but I am thankful God allowed us to suffer and endure it, so that I could share our experience with others. Black mold is a serious problem and it can severely compromise your immune system if you are exposed for more than your body can handle.
Take migraines for instance. Did you know that mold in your home can trigger nasty migraines? Yes, especially black mold. Most people living in hot humid, damp areas have serious mold issues in their home and don’t even know why they keep getting infections and upper respiratory sicknesses. Here is a list of things that daily toxic mold exposure can cause:
- Respiratory distress, coughing, sneezing & sinusitis.
- Asthmatic signs; wheezing, shortness in breath, coughing, burning in lungs, etc.
- Irritable bowel syndrome, nausea & diarrhea.
- Difficulty swallowing & mucous.
- Burning in the throat and lungs (similar to acid reflux and often misdiagnosed as such)
- Swollen lymph nodes
- Thyroid irregularities,
- Migraines & Headaches
- Anxiety/depression, heart palpitations
- Extreme blood pressure, cholesterol, or triglycerides irregularities
- Night head sweats, and drooling while sleeping, profuse sweating
- Nose bleeds (stachybotrys)
- Joint/muscle stiffness and pain
- Irregular heart beat

Natural Approach to Allergies for You & Your Family – Plus Info on What Testing to Ask For

Are you suffering from allergies right now. Then this article is for you. So many of us have allergies yet we go undiagnosed and suffer from all kinds of ailments and have no idea that they are being caused by allergies.
For instance, did you know that allergies can trigger, mimic and contribute to the following problems?
Chronic ear infections
Diabetes
Eczema and psoriasis
Fibromyalgia
Sinusitis
IBS or Irritable Bowel Syndrome
Headaches
Pain on the body
Heartburn
Allergies can make many existing problems worse, start or trigger several disorders and create symptoms that mimic many common symptoms present in a long list of disorders.
If you suspect you may have allergies because you suffer from any of the above issues you may want to consider specific testing that can be done in a private lab.
There are simple tests you can request to determine if you have food sensitivities, allergies and or intolerances.
IgE allergy testing looks at foods that cause an immediate allergy, these are usually the reactions that most doctors recognize. They are reactions to foods or inhalants that involve the immune systems IgE antibodies.
IgG sensitivities test looks at many foods to determine delayed sensitivities. Symptoms usually don’t appear for several hours. These symptoms can be present for months or years until the reactive food has been removed from the diet for several months or longer.
Testing for Gluten intolerance and Celiac disease is also VERY important because a lot of issues like IBS, crohns, rheumatoid arthritis, asthma and many other ailments can be caused because of a gluten allergy. Learning to check for food allergies and in tolerances has been very important for us, since my firsborn had many allergies as a young child that went undiagnosed. After careful observation I started to see that certain foods would trigger his asthma. So for the past 11 years we have been on a journey with him to get him healthier. I did case studies on my son and wrote down everything for weeks and weeks at a time. I would compare his symptoms and research ways to help him. He was on over 6 meds a day before his 2 birthday and the pediatrician we had, believed in prescribing an antibiotic for every little thing, completely destroying his immune system and digestive function. I am so thankful that I know what I know now, even though we had very rough months in and out of ER’s and many sleepless nights. But you would never get this info from me had I not been allowed to live through those perils, so for that I am blessed.
You can also test for intolerances which are generally chemical reactions to foods that do not involve the immune system. Most allergists completely overlook intolerances because they are not considered to be classic allergies. However food intolerances can wreak havoc by causing migraines, headaches, diarrhea and many other things.
Whether you suffer from allergies or food sensitivities I have found that taking herbs that have high anti fungal properties can help along with a good probiotic like the one from Garden of Life.
Once you know what allergies and or food sensitivities you have it’s easier to devise a plan to first detox and then remove foods that may trigger an allergic reaction. After diagnosing, cleansing and removing triggers, you can focus on supplementation and herbal remedies to aid the body’s immune response.
For natural approaches to allergies, consider the following:
- Omega-3 fatty acids: According to Mother Earth News, a German study published in the journal Allergy found people who have diets rich in of omega-3 fatty acids suffer from fewer allergy symptoms. A second study in Sweden found that children who regularly ate fish prior to age one had much lower allergies by age four. My favorite sources of omega-3 fatty acids are grass fed meat and eggs, and krill oil. (Fish has become too contaminated to rely on as a staple.)
- Probiotics: In a 2008 study, researchers discovered that people who took probiotics throughout allergy season had lower levels of an antibody that triggered allergy symptoms. They also had higher levels of a different antibody (IgG), thought to play a protective role against allergic reactions. Other researchers found evidence that giving probiotics to newborns and mothers-to-be may help prevent childhood allergies.
- Vitamin D: Insufficient vitamin D levels have been linked to more severe asthma and allergies in children. Vitamin D has also been found to reduce allergic responses to mold.
- Hot peppers: Hot chili peppers, horseradish, and hot mustards work as natural decongestants. In fact, a nasal spray containing capsaicin (derived from hot peppers) significantly reduced nasal allergy symptoms in a 2009 study.
- Locally produced honey: Many believe that consuming locally produced honey, which contains pollen spores picked up by the bees from your local plants, can act as a natural “allergy vaccine.” By introducing a small amount of allergen into your system (from eating the honey), your immune system is activated and over time can build up your natural immunity against it. Just be careful to consume honey moderately as it’s high in fructose.
Below are several other foods and herbs you might want to try:
- Quercetin: Quercetin is an antioxidant that belongs to a class of water-soluble plant substances called flavonoids. Although research is sketchy, many believe quercetin-rich foods (such as apples, berries, red grapes, red onions, capers and black tea) prevent histamine release—so they are “natural antihistamines.” Quercetin is also available in supplement form—a typical dose for hay fever is between 200 and 400 mg per day.
- Butterbur (Petasites hybridus): Another natural antihistamine, this herb has been used since ancient times to treat a variety of conditions, including migraines. In a German study, 40 percent of patients taking butterbur root extract were able to reduce their intake of traditional asthma medications. A British study found butterbur as effective as the drug Zyrtec.A word of caution is needed, however. Butterbur is a member of the ragweed family, so if you are allergic to ragweed, marigold, daisy, or chrysanthemum, you should not use butterbur. Also, the RAW herb should not be used because it contains substances called pyrrolizidine alkaloids that can be toxic to the liver and kidneys and may cause cancer. Commercial butterbur products have had a lot of these alkaloids removed.
- Stinging nettle (Urtica dioica): Another natural antihistamine, stinging nettle has a long history of use for seasonal allergies, without the drowsiness and dry mouth associated with many pharmacological antihistamines. Nettle inhibits your body’s ability to produce histamines. The recommended dose is about 300 mg freeze-dried nettle extract daily.
- Goldenseal (Hydrastis canadensis): Goldenseal may be helpful for seasonal allergies. Laboratory studies suggest that berberine, the active ingredient in goldenseal, has antibacterial and immune-enhancing properties.
- Eucalyptus oil: This pure essential oil can be healing to mucus membranes. You can apply a drop on a cotton ball and sniff it several times a day, add a few drops to water (or to a nebulizer, if you own one) for a steam treatment, or use a few drops in your bathwater.

I love Red Rose Petals. At home we use them in everything from our crafts to our teas and herbal baths. We have on more than one occasion also used them to make a delicious rose petal jam. Once a friend of mine had really bad mouth sores and I quickly made her a strong Red Rose Petal tea for her to swoosh around in her mouth. After a few days of using this fragrant remedy, all her sores that normally lasted several weeks were gone. Simply Amazing.
Red Rose Petals are one of Gods Green herbs that we use often and enjoy adding to our recipes. But you probably did not know that Red Rose Petals have many medicinal properties. Here are just a few:
- Rose petals are rejuvenating and prove to be a tonic.
- They are used to treat internal asthma, high blood pressure, bronchitis, slow circulation, diarrhea, dysmenorrhea (painful menstruation), cough, fever and fluid retention, indigestion, insomnia, palpitation, stress and urinary tract infections.
- Due to their strong and pleasant fragrance, rose petals are used for making essential oils and perfumes.
- They are ingested as a tea to provide a comforting effect and diminish body temperatures during high fevers.
- The tea also effectively cleanses toxins and heat from the body.
- The infusion prepared from the rose petals is used to alleviate cold and flu symptoms.
- The infusion is also effective in treating sore throats, runny nose and congested bronchial tracts.
- The petals effectively combat infections in the digestive system and restore the normal and essential bacteria in the intestines.
- They have a diuretic effect and hence, are beneficial in relieving excessive fluids from the urinary bladder.
- Rose petals help to get rid of the waste and toxic substances in the body, through the kidneys.
- They alleviate problems of insomnia, depression and fatigue.
To make a strong herbal tea simply boil a cup of water and pour over 2 tablepoons of red rose petals. Cover and steep for 5 minutes then strain and enjoy. At home we NEVER toss the strained herbs. Why? Oh, I’ll spill the beans and give you one of my oldest beauty tips.
Ready for this? It’s quite simple. Use the strained petals to gently rub on your clean product free face. If you can, lay down and place the petals over you face for 5 to 10 minutes then gently exfoliate with them and do Not wash your face afterwards. I have been doing this for years and it’s a fantastic inexpensive way to keep your skin radiant and soft.
I also use red rose petals in one of our customer favorites called I’m an Organic Baby Bath™ (blend of organic loose herbs).
This bath came about because I wanted to treat my children to a non chemical bath that would sooth and cleanse their skin. We enjoy these baths weekly especially our latest baby, he loves taking herbal baths with mommy. You don’t have to be a baby to enjoy its healing properties; it’s a great herbal bath for everyone! Contact LCO for pricing and purchasing details.
As always if you are going to use any herb make sure it’s pesticide, fungicide and herbicide free. If you need help finding organic herbs at a reasonable price please contact LCO here.
Many Blessings to you and yours!

LCO’s New Site for Celiac Disease and Gluten Intolerance

in Allergies and Asthma, Baby & Child Health, Gluten Free Tags: Celiac Disease, Gluten, Gluten-Free, Gluten-free diet
Hi guys. Its been a crazy week for us. My oldest son was diagnosed with Celiac Disease yesterday and I have been running around in circles since, trying to make needed changes, making herbal medicine, creating a new website, comforting my son and finishing up 2 talks that I am giving this weekend at a health & wellness retreat. The great thing is that despite his diagnosis the Dr said that his blood is exceptionally healthy which is very uncommon for children suffering from the severity of his gluten allergy. Under normal conditions he would be malnourished, lacking in vital minerals and vitamins and with possible cancer, rheumatoid arthritis and many other issues.
His great blood work is a testament to our organic diet and all the raw green smoothies we do daily. So I am on another mission to see if this diagnosis can be reversed at all through herbs, detoxing, raw food and anything else I can get my hands on.
My son was feeling kind of down about this yesterday since it ALTERS everything for him and for our family. In an effort to encourage him and the millions of families dealing with Celiac disease I vowed I would start another site and offer up our experience and life journey to help others and use my years of research for the benefit of our family and all my readers around the world.
And so, “Gluten Free Mommy & Me” site was born at about midnight last-night.
The site is still under construction but I am very excited to share my perils and life changes with you as we go through this journey of Celiac disease in our oldest child. Since he was just diagnosed and I wanted to dive in nose first so that as we push on through I can encourage and support others going through the same thing.
I often say that God lets us go through tough times so in our suffering and hardship we can bless others. This new site is dedicated to the millions of children and their families that have Celiac disease. My hope is to bless and equip you so that you can overcome the obstacles, find encouragement, try great recipes, and read the latest research and health articles on the topic so that you won’t feel like you’re the only mom or dad in the world dealing with this.
I also want to provide you with the latest resources for organic gluten free foods as not all gluten free foods are healthy from what I have seen. Who knows, LCO might branch out and start making organic gluten free foods……….

What to do when your family is sick with a cold or flu? Treat it Naturally? Find out what LCO does at home!

I often get asked this question when I am speaking or when I am around friends with little ones.
So I am going to give you a quick example of what a sick day in our home looks like, using my self as the victim and a few of the many treatments and approaches I use when sickness comes knocking.
It’s very important to note that if you have overly rambunctious kids and all of a sudden they are clingy, whining and sleepy with dark circles or red glossy eyes, this is a straight giveaway that sickness might be lurking around the corner.
When I see these symptoms in a member of our household it always turns out to mean a flu, cold or virus has already begun to pester the delicate balance of their internal health.
So I will usually whip out my greens (Chlorella, spirulina, wheatgrass, dandelion), colostrum capsules, olive leaf extract, raw honey and some frozen mangos or berries. I add in some water or almond milk and blend my self a huge 32 ounce smoothie. I will drink 3 of these shakes the entire day in addition to 3 cups of my Immunity Rescue Tea
If I am very ill I will juice greens, veggies and fruits instead of smoothies and also do the Immunity tea mentioned above 3 to 5 times per day.
In addition to smoothies and tea I do not eat anything other than a meat and dairy free soup or cream of sweet potatoes and carrots which is easily done by boiling carrots and sweet potatoes with a pinch of sea salt and then blending cooked potatoes and carrots with the same liquid it boiled in.
If it’s a cold I feel coming on I make a bath using Moms Herbal Salts and add in lots of eucalyptus and thyme. I soak in it for about 30 minutes and come out of the bath and rub frankincense and myrrh oil on my feet and neck.
About every 3 hours I will do 3 dropper-fulls of my Immunity Rescue Glycerite or tincture, which is a great organic herbal medicine that can be made by everyone in their home and save lots of time and $. If I am out of my own homemade immunity glycerites and tinctures I will use a great substitute in capsule form called Wellness by Source Naturals.
If my throat is itchy and scratchy I’ll add 2 cloves of garlic to my tea each time I brew a cup as garlic acts as a natural antibiotic and also boasts anti-viral properties. If my ears are itching I’ll put a few drops of peroxide in both ears and drain it out, then add 3 drops of garlic and mullein oil in each ear and cover with cotton repeating 3 times a day for 2 days.
During this time I try to rest as much as possible although for me that means maybe a 6 hour sleep night with two nursing interruptions. When at all possible aim for 8 to 10 hours of sleep so that your body can regain strength and you will recuperate much faster.
It seems like a lot of stuff but I would rather sacrifice two days of intense treatment then be sick for two weeks like most people. My children also get the same treatment in addition to me listening to their lungs with my stethoscope and also look in their ears as an added measure. Because my oldest has a history of asthma that is under control now, I always keep an emergency bottle of Clear Lungs at home which is the best herbal supplement for asthma I have found so far, and it comes in handy when traveling and an asthma flare up occurs.
