Cancer in a Bottle – Learn to Read Labels and Avoid these Toxic Chemicals

Know the ingredients in your personal care products.  A fantastic Guide by EWG (Environmental Working Group)

Better products are truthful in their marketing claims and free of potentially worrisome ingredients. Some products might make claims like “gentle” or “natural,” but since the government does not require safety testing, personal care product manufacturers can use almost any chemical they want, regardless of risks.

How to read a label
Every personal care product must list its ingredients. Here’s how to navigate the label:

  • Start at the end, with preservatives. Avoid:
    • Words ending in “paraben”
    • DMDM hydantoin
    • Imidazolidinyl urea
    • Methylchloroisothiazolinone
    • Methylisothiazolinone
    • Triclosan
    • Triclocarban
    • Triethanolamine (or “TEA”)
  • Check the beginning of the ingredients lists, where soaps, surfactants, and lubricants show up. Try to avoid ingredients that start with “PEG” or have an “-eth” in the middle (e.g., sodium laureth sulfate).
  • Read the ingredients in the middle. Look for these words: “FRAGRANCE,” “FD&C,” or “D&C.”

For grown-ups
Many parents pay more attention to their kids’ environmental health than their own, but adult bodies can be affected by toxic chemicals, too. EWG’s Safer Shopping List has nine common-sense tips to reduce everyone’s exposures. For instance, buy fragrance-free, skip the nail polish and use fewer products.

Just for kids
Extra caution is in order for kids because, pound for pound, they are exposed to more contaminants in everyday products than adults. Their immature metabolism and organ systems are typically less capable of fending off chemical assaults. Even subtle damage to young bodies can lead to disease later in life.

Follow EWG’s top five tips for kids:

  1. Use fewer products and use them less often.
  2. Don’t trust ad hype. Check ingredients.
  3. Buy fragrance-free products.
  4. Avoid the use of baby powder.
  5. Always avoid EWG’s top six chemicals of concern for kids:
    • 2-Bromo-2-Nitropropane-1,3 Diol
    • BHA
    • Boric acid and sodium borate
    • DMDM Hydantoin
    • Oxybenzone
    • Triclosan

Use this Herb Effectively for Dermatitis, Asthma, Colic, Nausea, Vertigo and Much More

I love herbs so much.  It’s amazing how the earth was created with everything we needed to live a good, long and healthy life.

One of the things God blessed the earth with is my favored Peppermint.

Did you know that a type of peppermint has been found in Egyptian tombs dating from 1000 BC.  It has been used for centuries for indigestion, colic, nausea, diarrhea, sore throat, toothaches, cramps, flatulence, acne, scabies, halitosis, neuralgia, fevers and ringworm; both as a tea and in aromatherapy treatments.

Peppermint’s medicinal properties include: analgesic, anti-inflamatory, antiseptic, antimicrobial, febrifuge, antiviral, antispasmodic.

We have used peppermint essential oil in our shampoo for many years to help with dry scalp and flakes.  The essential oil makes a lovely addition to an essential oil diffuser and mixes well with lavender, rosemary, lemon, eucalyptus and spearmint.  The tea settles the most upset of tummies and can effectively reduce fever along with other fever reducing herbs.

Do you need to make an herbal tea with peppermint?  Find out how by clicking here.

As with all things I recommend you use organic peppermint in all its forms.  You can buy quality organic essential oil at your local health food store in addition to the fresh or dried herb for use in teas and herbal baths.

If you need a pure and aromatic organic dried peppermint in loose tea form please contact me for pricing.  I have shipped several teas and my signature tea blends and herbal baths all over the world.

Blessings!

Depression, Ulcers, Poor Digestion, Gas, Bloating, Fatigue and Shortness of Breath can be Caused by these Nasty Intruders

More and more I seem to be meeting people who have some or all of the symptoms mentioned above.  Some are taking anti-depressants, while others have been hospitalized and taking many meds for a problem that is going on undiagnosed.

Don’t believe me, then watch this video.  It’s about a patient who was diagnosed with a brain tumor after being rendered completely unable to function.  You will be shocked.

So what are we talking about here?

Parasites.  These nasty critters can lurk in the dark corners of your body and wreak havoc.

What worries me is that people think that they have to travel to a developing nation to get parasites, but the truth is very far from that.  Parasites can be transmitted through improperly cooked food, kissing, unwashed hands with fecal matter that touch food, contaminated water and several other ways.  Then there are parasites like H. pylori that are pathogenic to humans and have been known to infect up to 50% of the human population.

And in the case of ulcers, did you know that studies show parasites can be responsible for over 80% of all ulcers that lead to cancer?  The culprit?  A spiral-shaped bacteria called Heliocobacter pylori (H. pylori).   This parasite is no joke.  More recent studies have revealed that 90 to 100 percent of patients with duodenal (the first section of the small intestine) ulcers and 70% of those with gastric (stomach) ulcers are all infected with H. pylori.  And H. Pylori parasites are able to thrive in very acidic environments so if your more acidic than alkaline then you’re a playground for these parasite to live and play.

How is this possible?  Well, the way this parasite works is quite fascinating to me.  It kind of acts like the enemy of our souls.  Making us numb to the things and people around us and then attacking us by penetrating to the core of our being.   H. pylori produces an enzyme called urease that neutralizes stomach acid and allows it to thrive, even penetrating and damaging the protective barrier of the stomach lining.  There it begins to weave its web and once there all kinds of health complications can occur.

But there is hope.  Testing for this parasite and others can be done in your routine check up; you just need to ask your doctor, because parasite checks are usually not offered as part of a well visit, which in my opinion is very bad.  This however was not the case when we lived abroad.  All our well visits included a little container for poop, urine and a saliva swab.

So ask your doctor if you suspect you may have H. pylori or any of the parasites and or symptoms mentioned below.

Pinworms – may cause severe anal itching, insomnia and restlessness. These worms tend to migrate out through the anus at night to lay eggs.

Hookworms – may cause the soles of the feet to itch. Bloody spit from the mouth, fever, rash and loss of appetite are also possible.

Threadworms – may cause coughing, abdominal pain, diarrhea, gas and itchy red abrasions on the anus.

Tapeworms may cause weight loss, abdominal pain, vomiting and diarrhea.

Ascarids – may cause bloating, stomach pain, vomiting and shortness of breath.

Microscopic Roundworms – may cause trichinosis leading to muscle damage and complications of the cardio and neuro systems.

LCO Confessions: I Cheated

Have you ever faithfully upheld certain values and or beliefs and then without proper thought just done the opposite?  That was me last night and I will NEVER do it again because it’s now 24 hours later and I am still feeling the pain of my foolishness.

No, it’s not what you’re thinking.  I am happily married and would never cheat on my husband but I did cheat on my beloved healthy food last night.

What happened, well here is the quick rundown.

My sister discovered she has a bad mold problem in her apartment so her and my wonderfully energetic niece (2 say the least) have been staying at our home.  It’s been loud, tiring, crazy and fun at the same time.  Something about 4 rambunctious children and 3 tired adults had to do with my cheating episode.

We decided to drive about 45 minutes to a nice park where the kid’s could run and de-stress from being on top of each other all week.  After about 3 hours we were all hungry and tired.  I for some unknown reason was craving a burger; either turkey or lentil but I wanted a burger.

Now let me hit the time out button for a minute and interject by saying that yesterday I was a bad mommy.  I packed no snacks, no good munchies, and no smoothies.  We left the house with zip, zero, zilch, nada; only a few water bottles and babies’ raw organic coconut milk.  And their lies the problem you see.  Had I been prepared our little cheating escapade may have been avoided.

So now, back to the burger craving.  I mention this to my husband who then says: “Oh, I would love to eat a nice big burger too!”  And then the kids started, yes me too, me too.  A turkey burger mommy.  Well I grabbed my handy little wanna be i-Phone which is really just a Samsung look-a-like and I started searching for healthy/organic restaurants in the area, only to see “Your search provided no results”.

Awweee come on I said over and over again.  Why are there no good healthy restaurants nearby, not even a Health food store?

After much deliberation we drive to a restaurant that makes fresh barbecue with local naturally raised animals and offers an array of salads and burgers.

So here we were sitting down, listening to country music and looking at the menu.  Now all of a sudden no one wants a burger they want ribs!!!!  I announce that we are not buying pork ribs just in case they forgot WE DON’T LIKE EATING PORK only to be told by the waitress that they have beef ribs.  What a temptation, Lord why me?  Ribs, I can’t tell you when the last time was that I ate ribs, but needless to say my non-organic sister and niece cheer with joy at the sound of ribs and my kids follow suit.

Finally the meal is ready and out comes 4 large containers of baked beans and a raw cabbage salad with carrots otherwise known as coleslaw.

Then the beef ribs, BBQ chicken, potatoes and corn.

By this time my purse is open, and I am counting the digestive enzymes that I am going to take with this intoxicating meal.  We all bless the food and start to munch away.  The coleslaw tastes good since it has almost no mayo which I am excited about.  I say to myself that I will just eat the cabbage and the baked beans and call it a night.  But I fail miserably and decide to have 3 small ribs each about 3 inches long and 1 inch wide, these were tiny ribs not those found on super steroid raised cows.  I also have garlic bread, a small piece of corn and lots of water.

Once we finished we all head out to wash our hands and get into the car.  Everything seemed normal until my husband and I are in bed regurgitating our food.  The indigestion and discomfort was terrible and I vow at this point to NEVER break LCO’s code of food ethics again.

In the morning I made myself a 30 ounce green smoothie with lots of organic sprouts, coconut and chlorophyll.  In a matter of minutes my stomach was feeling better.

So, I too have cheated and I wanted to share my sin with youL, now it’s your turn to fess up.

What have you cheated on in your daily diet and how has it affected you?

Peace, Love and lots of greens!
